Backyardbeansandgrains repairs garage doors in Huntington Beach and the neighbouring coastal towns. What we are known for locally is the awkward end of the trade: the doors that most companies quietly decline because their techs were trained on one mechanism and one parts catalogue.

There are four mechanisms in regular service in this city. Modern sectional doors, made of hinged panels running on curved track, are the everyday case and account for most of what we touch. One-piece tilt-up slabs are still holding on across the older blocks, swinging out over the driveway on jamb hardware that in some cases has not been manufactured since the Nixon administration. Rolling curtains of interlocking slats coil onto a barrel above the opening and turn up on the small commercial units inland of the highway. Carriage house doors split into two entirely different animals, one that truly swings on hinges and one that is a sectional dressed to look like it does.

Why We Make a Point of This

Every part of a repair follows from the door type. The tools differ, the failure modes differ, and above all the parts availability differs. A sectional roller is a stock item any supplier in Orange County has by the bin. A jamb plate for a 1958 tilt-up may be gone from the world entirely. Quoting before identification is how a homeowner ends up paying for a visit that produces nothing.

How We Work

• Identification first. We name the door and its hardware family before we price anything. If a photo from inside your garage can settle it, we will look at that rather than charge you for a call-out.
• Honest about dead ends. When a tilt-up has soft jambs, a bowed slab and unsourceable hardware, we say so. Some repairs have simply stopped being worth the money, and pretending otherwise costs you more than the truth does.
• Old doors taken seriously. We keep universal jamb hardware, spring arm sets and pivot bearings on the van, and we know which of them will actually work on which vintage.
• Safety brought current. Openers built before 1993 have no photo eyes at floor level. On a heavy single slab that is worth fixing, and California has required battery backup on new openers since July 2019.
